Digital citizenship is the power to use technology responsibly and safely. Students this generation and future generations come into this world with their DNA already programmed and ready for the technology that is already available and the one that is yet to be invented or developed. They are born into a society in which everything is already computerized and the technology is already smarter than you and I. However, to become a digital citizen means that they have to become responsible citizens in the digital world, learn how to use the technology available appropriately and know when to differentiate reliable information vs. unreliable or outdated information. In a classroom, the students are already equipped with the know how, however it’s up to the teachers to teach them the appropriate norms and regulations of the digital world.
